​Fertilizing 101: When to Fertilize and Why?

 

Timing is everything when it applies to fertilizing and FALL is when you apply fertilizer since this is when the roots that will sustain the plants through the following summer are actively growing and need fertilization. The ideal periods are the first two weeks in September and between the last mowing and Thanksgiving. Fertilizing after Thanksgiving often is hampered by wintry conditions, during which time precipitation will wash the fertilizer into local streams, contributing to waterway pollution. More

Aeration What? And Why Does My Lawn Need It?

 

Aeration involves the perforating of the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, fuller and vibrant lawn. The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction. Compacted soils have too many solid particles in a certain volume or space, which prevents proper circulation of air, water and nutrients within the soil.
